Information on Dentures
Dentures are a full set of false teeth for a single arch. Some patients may require a full set of upper teeth, lower teeth, or require dentures for both arches. Missing all of your teeth can be a very frustrating problem, patients can experience a wide range of emotions and frustrations including a lack of chewing, changes in their speech, embarrassment, loss of nutrition, and anxiety. We don’t want our patients to have these problems. Dentures can provide considerable relief and restore some function.
Dentures are a set of false teeth that have been set into a pink plastic mold, restoring the appearance and structure of your teeth and gums.A huge difference between partial dentures and full dentures is the loss of a post to hold the denture in place. Many denture wearers experience the added frustration of trying to keep their appliance stabilized. A common complaint among denture wearing patients is the motion and movement of their denture. This continuous shifting or rocking of the prosthetic can lead to soreness and discomfort. The traditional options include a lining for the denture that will assist with suction and the purchase of an adhesive designed to hold dentures in place. Both of these options will allow for some stability but have a high likelihood of failure during your day. An increasingly growing option is to permanently stabilize your denture by surgically placing posts to hold them in place. This is known as implant retained dentures.
Implant Retained Dentures
Implant-retained dentures, also known as permanent dentures, are taking the world of dentistry by storm. This system allows the patient to chew, speak, and overall feel, like their teeth, have been restored. Unlike traditional dentures, these will stay put, without shifting or movement. That is because they are secured to the jawbone with solid dental implant posts that have been surgically placed. Dr. Embree or Dr. Heys can surgically insert between four and six dental implants to serve as solid structures to attach your denture to. This will provide teeth that permanently stay in place. This allows us to truly upgrade your dentures.
