What Is a Root Canal?A root canal is a small tube in the roots of your teeth. Healthy root canals are chock full of pulp, blood, and nerves. What most people call a root canal is a type of therapy that focuses on that specific part of your tooth. Sometimes, often via decay, the pulp down in those canals becomes infected or irritated and must be treated. The treatment method used is what people refer to as a “root canal.”What Is the Process?Long story short, we have to go deep into these canals and remove the problematic pulp and tissue before it spreads or worsens. Then, the canal is sealed up tight to keep it from happening all over again. It starts off just like a standard filling. We go in through the top of your tooth, after numbing the area. Then, we drill down to the pulp, where we can remove the bad tissue deep inside. This stops the infection from spreading and damaging the rest of the healthy tooth or the teeth around it. Using more specially designed instruments, we reshape and clean the root canals to the way they should look. After that, we fill in the spaces carefully and possibly put a crown on the tooth if needed. At this point, your tooth is good as new and can last as long as if it never got infected in the first place! Will it Hurt? The local anesthetic that we use is sure to numb the entire area. If you experience any discomfort at all, be sure to let us know right away, and we will take steps to make you as comfortable as possible. We want you to have a great experience with us. Though there may be a slight ache in the area for a few days following the restoration, any discomfort can be easily managed using standard household medications. Our team has years of experience under our belts and will be sure that you are as comfortable as you can be getting such a procedure done. We can assure you that there is no need to be nervous at all. We have got you covered! We also understand that there is the element of the unknown that can make you apprehensive, and we are happy to help you get past that stage so that you can be as relaxed in the chair as you can be. |
